Activity 19

A. At first I automatically assume it is an advert persuading people to purchase these stylish shoes due to the image.

B. When reading up to the end of the text I believe the function is to inform people about global events and to detract them from purchasing these shoes as "teenage girls" in Liberia have been sold dreams thinking they can have these shoes if they "fight in the country's civil war."

C. I believe this is effective if this advert is trying to stop consumers from purchasing these shoes as the fact that the advert includes infomation based upon a global event happening in Liberia where people aren't treated fairly will make people think twice about these shoes, But on the other hand this is also effective if this is persuading people to buy these shoes as people in the UK may consider themselves lucky to be able to own these shoes without having to fight in a war and also: "so they really are to die for" could be seen as nothing but a pun.

2.

The advert uses interrogative sentences such as "what would you do to get your hands on a pair" to make the reader visualise what they'll do to get these and this could also make the reader feel guilty as if teenage girls in Liberia will kill for these what will you do?

Analysis:

This is an informal conversation, As it is immediate and spontaneous as this was on a social networking site so everything would have been improvised,Also this Facebook message is an interactive dialogue as this is a conversation between two people, This is also a private one to one as the audience/receiver is known.

This conversation is partially context dependent due to the fact that you need to know the subject of this message or you wouldn't understand what the conversation is about, This is also message oriented as it is a Facebook message.

If you look closely I use the word 'Yeah' which is completely different as opposed to the word 'Yes' as it is used for me to let the person know they can carry on the conversation, Also there are a wide range of personal pro nouns  in this conversations for example 'I'll holla you" or "I didn't mean it" as in conversations we tend to talk about ourselves and even much more simple we speak in first person in conversations.

Although this is less formal on the scale of formality, There is a wide range of punctuation for example commas and question marks, This is due to the fact that I still find it important to use punctuation as it is easier for the receiver to understand what I'm talking about at specific points.

If you follow this conversation clearly you can see the illocution of me saying 'it was fine' is that I want you to leave me alone, I also use 'Errrrrr' as a word to fill in a gap as substitution for another word I can't quite yet come to, Which throughout you see a lot of fillers.

Analysis of a text by Tevvy Is So Cold

My message between me and my friend using Facebook.

Friend: whats ur money saying

Tarique: Loooool you funny kid, Yeah I got 60 on me, Mate I can't leave this feature thing lol, I'm tryna get her on the mixtape but its 100 for her, So ima try 50 lol

Friend: loooool

Tarique: Let's do this

When talking to a friend I still use commas but there is still minimalism when using punctuation as this is an informal occasion and overall this is a friend so there is no need for punctuation unless I want him too know there is a pause, Notice the repetitive use of "looool" we use this in place of pauses as well as commas and also to show the fact that something said was funny.

My friend says "ur" instead of "your" this is our idiolect otherwise known as urban slang this is used as we are sometimes to lazy too type "your."

Politics and English language by George Orwell

Well funny enough George Orwell criticises the ‘inaccurate’ written English of his time and from what I understood Mr.Orwell believes English was simply ugly during his time, He also claims political prose was constructed: “To make lies sound truthful and murder respectable”

Throughout the essay Orwell encourages clarity instead of vagueness over political conformity which is matching attitudes and beliefs.

Another case is that Orwell in terms of political writing notes that "orthodoxy seems to Demand lifeless”Political speech and writing are generally in defence of the indefensible and so lead to a euphemistic inflated style.

Politics and English language

Well funny enough George Orwell critics the English language as he describes it as being 'inaccurate' From what I understood guys Mr.Orwell believes English was simply ugly during his time he also claims political prose was constructed: "To make lies sound truthful and murder respectable"

Throughout George Orwell's essay he encourages clarity instead of vagueness over political conformity which is matching attitudes and beliefs.

Also Orwell believes political speech and writing are in defense of indefensible matters and lead to a euphemistic inflated approach which in summary means that politics is quite often harsh.
