Activity 19

A. At first I automatically assume it is an advert persuading people to purchase these stylish shoes due to the image.

B. When reading up to the end of the text I believe the function is to inform people about global events and to detract them from purchasing these shoes as "teenage girls" in Liberia have been sold dreams thinking they can have these shoes if they "fight in the country's civil war."

C. I believe this is effective if this advert is trying to stop consumers from purchasing these shoes as the fact that the advert includes infomation based upon a global event happening in Liberia where people aren't treated fairly will make people think twice about these shoes, But on the other hand this is also effective if this is persuading people to buy these shoes as people in the UK may consider themselves lucky to be able to own these shoes without having to fight in a war and also: "so they really are to die for" could be seen as nothing but a pun.

2.

The advert uses interrogative sentences such as "what would you do to get your hands on a pair" to make the reader visualise what they'll do to get these and this could also make the reader feel guilty as if teenage girls in Liberia will kill for these what will you do?
